Kirkleatham Owl Centre

Add Kirkleatham Owl Centre to your Itinerary

The Owl Centre is a family owned and managed birds of prey centre with a special emphasis on owls. Over 100 birds are on display and weather permitting there are free flying displays every day throughout the season. Meet the baby owls and baby vultures are the highlights of the day, usually around midday.

What’s happening in 2009:

• Our Conservation Aviary Islands On The Edge, is now up and running and home to a variety of birds from different country's - many of which are endangered, critically endangered and on International Breeding Programs.

• We have daily flying demonstrations at 2:30pm throughout the School Holidays and at weekends-with Eagle Owls, Barn Owls and our star - Stanley the Striated Caracara.

• From Easter to early summer there is the chance to bottle feed our baby lambs daily at 1:30pm.

• Our breeding season is looking like its going to be a busy one, which means we will have hand reared baby owls to bring out to meet the public, with Meet The Baby Owls daily at 12:00 noon & 3:00pm.

New arrivals in 2008 and now on show include:

• A pair of Bizarre Tawney Frogmouth's - strange looking birds from Australia- Kirkleatham is one of only 6 collections to keep this species in the UK!

• A pair of Abyssinian Ground Hornbills named "Cruella" and "Gilbert" - huge birds from the savannahs of Northern Africa - we are one of only 5 collections in the UK to keep them!

• A stunning female King Vulture named "Priscilla" arrived and again Kirkleatham is one of only a handful of zoological collections to keep this species in the UK!

• Of course one of the largest collections of owls and birds of prey in the UK, from huge Eagle Owls to Tiny Scops Owls and beautiful Barn Owls, from noisy Kookaburras to hawks, buzzards and Merlin our mysterious talking raven!

We have other new arrivals planned for 2009 and hopefully lots of babies due to hatch.
